The only way around it is to press a button on the top of the valve. That will wake it up so it can accept new instructions. It kind of defeats the object of automation though so not really a useable solution.
I can’t answer for other brands except tado which I have. That accepts new commands within a few seconds. Personally I prefer the tado valves, thermostats and boiler control setup and have been using it for over 8 years now.
I will look into why it is not clearing the message, which it should do as soon as the command complete message comes in. That should only be one or two polling intervals, so 30 to 60 seconds.
You should also see the Heating Mode and Operation Mode status change to the new setting once the valve has updated and sent then confirmation.
You could indeed select manual mode but the minimum setting is 5 degrees.
