[APP][Pro] Netgear Router - Network control, Presence detection, Energy monitoring

Ok thx. Can you please create an issue on Github with the compatibility test output (under app settings).
For now you can disable the firmware check in the router device settings.

Added to Github as requested.

can you clairify?

Thx 4 the link Roy. Just to add that for a netgear router 30s PTP is enough. No need to stay 10min without internet

I have a R7000 here also without issue. I assume you did not just reboot, but did a full PTP?

Hi, whats a full PTP ?

I have this issue only when i have upgraded my router in last firmware version. 1.0.9

https://community.homey.app/t/netgear-router-app-network-control-presence-detection-energy-monitoring/2259/267?u=gruijter

Hi,

After ptp same problem, on my netgear Nighthawk r7000, if i restart it, it works for few hours and i dont know why the authentication crash again.

The same here, after PTP I got about 12 hours of data from my r7000p, after that I got an authentication error till the next PTP of the router. Restarting homey doesn’t solve the problem, therefore I believe the router is the problem.

Yes, it seems that the more recent Netgear firmware releases have become more unstable concerning the SOAP interface (which is what the Homey app uses). You could downgrade your firmware, but I would not advise to do so because older firmware will have more security issues.

If you use these settings, the SOAP interface seems to remain somewhat stable for the R7000:

Have the R8000P and had to downgrade to 1.1.4.6 to work, stay away from new firmware upgrades, if it is not broken, do not fix it.

Also have an R7000, but that one has expressvpn firmware, so no issue for Netgear app. Version 1.0.7.12 is known to be most stable.

The latest firmware on my R9000 causes it to start dropping connections after a day until eventually nothing works. Rebooting at midnight kind of solved that but then I would sometimes get duplicate IP address handed out because the DHCP is also reset so it looses track.
The presence detection started to fail about a year ago after a firmware update as it would decide that devices were offline even though they were still being used.
So I have decided to cut my losses and dump Netgear as they seem to have completely lost the way.
I now have a Draytek router and it’s like my broadband has been upgraded but I do miss the features of this app.

Seems your lease time could have Ben lowered to solve the dhcp faults. Setting the lease time to 1,hr should have helped

It would have reduced the overlap but not completely solved it.
I also had ‘fixed’ IPs based on MAC but it wouldn’t even honour that in the last few updates. I wish I had kept a copy of the original firmware as that worked well. But when you see a long list of security fixes you feel the update is essential.
But the point I was trying to make was Robin’s app is great but Netgear have messed it up.

New version 3.2.0 is available as test:

  • Netgear package 4.1.0.
  • Message queueing and rate limiting.
  • onInit stability improvements.

These settings seam to have made the difference, got 5 days of data till now

@Gruijter Thanks for your continuous work!

I noticed my router had a new firmware update that came out in the last few days. I read that downgrading the firmware might fix issues, but before I gave that a shot I upgraded to see if that would fix the issues I was having.

Either all that was needed was a restart of the router or Homey, but after the firmware update and suggested settings above, it seems to work on my R8000. Granted, it hasn’t been more than 30 minutes, but I’m hopeful

Let me know if you need testers for R8000.

Here is recent information on a newly discovered vulnerability that hits most Netgear routers:

Hi,

I have an Orbi RBR50 running on Firmware Version V2.5.1.16 and I’m unable to add new connected device. This worked before but not anymore :frowning: I tried to PTP on Homey and Router but this didn’t solve the problem. Any sugestions what might cause this and how to solve?
